How to Upgrade the Alcoda Standalone programs

Upgrading to a new Version 5.x from any previous Version 5

Just run the new 5.x install and overwrite the existing 5.x installation. During the install, you may choose to make backups of the overwritten older files.

Version 3.x to Version 5.x

Completely uninstall Version 3.x, using Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs, and perform a new complete Version 5.x install.
Version 4.x to Version 5.x

Note: Before uninstalling, to save your existing Custom User Dictionary and Main dictionaries, read the section on "Reusing your existing Version 4.x Custom User Dictionary and other spelling dictionaries" below.

Upgrading to Version 5 requires a complete Uninstall (by using Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs) of any previous version of D C AL CODA applications that you currently have installed.

The upgrade can be looked at as a 4 step process:

  • Save any existing Custom User Dictionaries and Main spelling dictionaries, such as Medical, Legal or other language
  • Uninstall the current Version 4.x
  • Install the new Version 5.x
  • Move the saved dictionaries into the new Version 5.x folder location

Your current Registration Number is valid for upgrading to Version 5.x.

Reusing your existing Version 4.x Custom User Dictionary and other spelling dictionaries:

You may use any other spelling dictionaries, such as Medical or other languages, that you have previously downloaded and placed into the Version 4.x folder. Save and move all of the dictionaries you wish to reuse, from the existing Version 4.x folder to the new Version 5.x folder location.

You may keep your Version 4.x Custom User Dictionary if you are upgrading from one of the following applications:

  • Spell Magic v4.x
  • YTSEditor v4.x
  • YTS Words Suite v4.x
  • EditorPro v1.x
  • EditorPro Suite v1.x

Your Custom User Dictionary contains words that you have added that were not contained in the standard spelling dictionary. You can use your old Custom User Dictionary with Version 5, if you wish to save those added words.

To retain your Custom User Dictionary, close the Alcoda program and find the program folder, C:\Program Files\D C AL CODA\AppName by default. The Custom User Dictionary is named default.adu, by default.

Find default.adu, unless you renamed it. Save and move a copy of default.adu in the new Alcoda program folder, C:\Program Files\Alcoda\AppName by default. You may be prompted that you are overwriting the existing default.adu, click OK because you want to use your old default.adu. Now, when you open the Alcoda program your old Custom User Dictionary will be used.

EditorPro and EditorPro Suite Note:
If you wish to save your Syntax Highlighting Schemes (used by EditorPro), save the .DAT files located in the program folder. Close the Alcoda program and Copy them into the new program folder after you have run Install. The next time you open EditExt, your old settings will be used.
